The Progress Players

The Progress Players are the drama group of Salisbury United Reformed Church

We are a small, but enthusiastic group who provide various social activities for the Church. We also participate in worship. Most of our social events are run to fund-raise for various projects supported by the Church, such as Christian Aid, Embu Orphanage in Kenya, Chernobyl Medicines Fund and the New Hope, New Life Project in India.

Last year one of our events was a murder mystery evening, "Murder at Mallards". We performed a play, with several gruesome murders and the audience had the opportunity to question us afterwards (in character), and guess "whodunnit".

Entertainment at the Harvest Supper or for Church Anniversary is often provided by The Progress Players.

We had one of our famous "Socials", when we said goodbye to our previous minister, Bryan Shirley. These events take place usually once a year and always have a theme. They involve everyone participating in various quizzes and games. The evening was rounded off with a performance of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves" (which included some familiar church faces!)

We performed "Spanish Caprice" as part of the Church's Spanish Evening. This was a comedy written for us and was very well-received. The evening raised money for two projects which the Church supports; an orphanage in Embu, Kenya and the Chernobyl Medicines Fund.

Several successful "Garden Party" events have been held over the last few years. These have been held in various Church members' gardens and have been mixtures of songs, sketches, poetry and music. The garden events are always popular and have been successful in raising funds for many causes supported by the Church.

Quiz evenings are another popular event run by The Progress Players, with several teams of Church folk taking part.

We have also led the Good Friday service, with a dramatic interpretation of the events of that day, and participate in worship when drama is required.
